Dan Herling is the founder of Herling ADR LLC and a mediator and arbitrator with more than 45 years of experience resolving complex commercial and civil disputes. Before launching his full-time ADR practice, he spent more than four decades as a trial lawyer where he represented clients in high-stakes litigation throughout California and across the United States.

During his legal career, Dan handled a wide range of matters involving product liability, consumer protection, class actions, toxic torts, food and beverage litigation, regulatory compliance, and complex business disputes. He served as lead trial counsel in numerous state and federal court proceedings and has tried more than forty civil jury cases. His practice also included substantial experience in international disputes, strategic negotiations, and risk assessment for multinational and domestic clients.


Dan brings this breadth of experience to his work as a neutral. He is known for a thoughtful, practical, and well-prepared approach that helps parties realistically evaluate risks, identify common ground, and explore creative solutions to difficult disputes. His extensive courtroom experience gives him a keen understanding of how cases are viewed by judges and juries, while his collaborative style encourages productive dialogue and durable resolutions.

Dan serves on the American Arbitration Association's Commercial and Consumer Panels and has completed AAA arbitrator training. He mediates and arbitrates disputes involving commercial, consumer, product liability, regulatory, and international business issues. Based in California, he is committed to providing fair, efficient, and professional dispute resolution services that help parties resolve conflict with confidence and finality.
