Do You Want to Know About Why You May or May Not Want to Become a State Bar Certified Mediator?

Ron Kelly has been an active member of the State Bar Working Group developing the proposed certification program rules since January 2025. Ron will provide an update on the State Bar rule-making process, and recent State Bar-sponsored legislation creating new exceptions to mediation confidentiality. In this interactive program, Ron will lead a discussion of why you may or may not want to become certified, and how to weigh in with the State Bar Trustees before the rules become finalized if you want to try to see them changed.

About the speaker: Ron Kelly initiated and guided enactment of California’s Evidence Code chapter defining and governing mediation, serving as lead expert in its drafting. He’s played a central role in shaping California’s mediation statutes, court rules, and administrative regulations for the past 35 years. He also played a central role in shaping the Uniform Mediation Act nationally. He's been honored with twelve awards for his work in building the field.
